September 18th, 19:00, TCD Long Room Hub.
On Culture Night, wander in to the Long Room Hub at Trinity College Dublin, any time between 7 and 9 p.m., to hear a host of students, graduates and academics speaking, declaiming and singing some of their favourite texts and translations. Most but not all are concerned with love, of various kinds. Some of the speakers will be performing their own original work. Readings are presented in English, with brief snatches of French, Turkish, Polish, Scots Gaelic, Russian and other exotic tongues.
A few anniversaries are marked: Yeats (150 this year), Dante (750), Lope de Vega (believed to have written Dog in the Manger just 400 years ago, in 1615). Join us for two hours of multicultural celebration, in an iconic building that stands as the last meow of the late Celtic Tiger.
